We teach old school Ashtanga Yoga in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, as it was handed down to him from his own teacher, the Father of modern Yoga, Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. Our yoga classes are welcoming, intelligent and appropriate for all students regardless of their ability or experience. Besides traditional Mysore style Ashtanga classes, we offer Led (fully guided) Ashtanga, and Yin Yoga classes as well.
Mysore Style 60-90 Minute practice for all levels, within a 2-3 hour practice window. Register for our next Intro to Mysore course. This is the traditional and ideal method for learning Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. It is semi-private yoga within a group setting during a 2-3 hour practice window. Students arrive and leave at their convenience, and practice anywhere from 45 minutes up to two hours. The teacher helps each student individually to develop and deepen their practice. Students gain in strength, flexibility and proficiency with dedication. Those with an established Mysore practice are always welcome to drop-in: we love meeting Ashtanga folks from around the world.
Led Half Primary 75 minutes. For students of all levels. Drop-ins always welcome. All students are guided/led simultaneously through a steady and flowing experience of half of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. Beginners may drop in to this class; the teacher will provide alignment instructions and physical assists. New students are guided with wisdom and patience; more seasoned Ashtanga students can practice to their own potential.
Led Primary Series 90 minutes. For those familiar with Ashtanga Yoga. All students are guided/led simultaneously through the sequence of postures comprising the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. Students with some experience of Ashtanga to seasoned Ashtanga students are welcome to attend; NEW STUDENTS are encouraged to start with Led Half Primary or Mysore. This class is steady and flowing; the teacher offers guidance both verbally and with hands-on assists.
Led Second Series 105 minutes, the second Sunday of the Month For those familiar with Ashtanga Yoga; Led Second Series a guided class, taught "Workshop style." Seasoned Ashtanga students who have been practicing Ashtanga for at least a year may attend. The teacher will guide students with voice, hands-on assists, and occasionally a "breakdown" of the asana. This is our most rigorous class and not appropriate for new students.
Yin Yoga 75 minutes For all levels; Drop-ins always welcome. Class size is limited to 15 students. Arrive early to ensure props and a spot. Yin Yoga is a complementary yoga practice to dynamic, active yoga styles such as Ashtanga Yoga. Postures are practiced on the floor and each is held for several minutes, allowing the deep layers of connective tissue to be gently and safely stretched. Yin Yoga restores and maintains the natural mobility of the joints and tissues closest to our core and encourages the free flow of energy throughout the body. Emphasizing stillness and an attitude of quiet acceptance, Yin Yoga can help practitioners develop or deepen mindful meditation.
